Archerfield Airport is Brisbane's secondary airport and a major centre for aviation activities, located 11km from the Brisbane CBD. 

CGC provided pavement investigation and foundation advice for several projects supporting the business case, concept design and maintenance programming at Archerfield Airport. 

The projects involved geotechnical investigations using a ute mounted drilling rig, laboratory and insitu sampling and testing, site classification and provision of subgrade design recommendations. Technical challenges included working within an active airfield environment and dealing with reactive subgrade materials derived from a basalt flow deposit.
