STATUE BAY DISASTER RECOVERY

PROJECTS

During Cyclone Marcia in February 2015, a 600m long section of the Scenic Highway at Statue Bay (south of Yeppoon) suffered significant landslide and rock falls and had to be closed. The associated slope section was up to 25m in height and adjacent to the coastline.

CGC was engaged to undertake slope risk assessments, geotechnical investigations, provide geological mapping of the slope and develop the concept, preliminary and detailed slope remediation designs. CGC also provided interpretation and reporting to assist in securing disaster relief funding for the remediation of the site, working with the client, NDRRA, DTMR and the local council.

The geotechnical investigations involved boreholes, test pits, laboratory testing with instrumentation installed in key areas.  The stabilisation designs included catch fencing, rock bolting and soil nailing, with the downslope works incorporating the design of a 9m reinforced soil structure revetment wall, with a bespoke facing block and connection.
