CGC performed the role of Design Manager – Geotechnical and Pavements on behalf of the principal contractor, and also provided construction phase services for this $1.2bn project.

This project included provision for an 8 lane full depth asphalt pavement configuration (greenfield and brownfield construction techniques), construction and/or widening of 11 bridge structures, embankments up to 8m high over compressible and/or reactive subgrades, drainage structures, reinforced earth, soil nail and gravity wall systems. Investigations involved over 200 boreholes, Cone Penetration Tests (CPTu’s), vane shear tests and associated laboratory testing.

Construction support included pile construction advice, temporary works design, subgrade inspections and hold point release, trouble shooting and value engineering, as well as managing subcontractor delivery of the instrumentation and monitoring program comprising inclinometers, piezometers, plates, pins, pads and targets.
